James Oley "Simon" Hatfield

James Oley “Simon” Hatfield, 78 of Coal Mountain, departed this life on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan.

Born, August 21, 1931, at Coal Mountain, he was the son of the late Oley and Ruby Morgan Hatfield. 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Cornett Hatfield, who departed this life on December 2, 1976; one brother, Alonzo Hatfield; and one sister, Elouise Hatfield.

Simon was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He was a retired meat packer and attended the Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church.   He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.   While serving his country he received the national defense service medal and the good conduct medal.  Military graveside services will be performed by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #141 of Belfry Kentucky.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are:  his loving son, Jeffrey D. (Kathleen) Hatfield of Prince Frederick, Maryland; his two sisters:  Mary (Bueford) Lester of Oceana and Glenna Hatfield of Coal Mountain; his four brothers:  Jack (Adele) Hatfield, Arden (Katherine) Hatfield, and Rondell Hatfield, all of Coal Mountain, and Alvin (Violet) Hatfield of Brenton; his three precious grandchildren:  David (Dawn) Hatfield, Jonathan Hatfield, and Jaimie (Kevin) Jeffrey; his five wonderful great grandchildren:  Arianna, Nathan, and Olivia Hatfield, and Caraline and Marlee Jeffery; and a host of other dear family and friends.

The family would like to extend a “Special Thank You” to the Administrative Staff, Nursing Staff, and the CNA Staff at the Logan Center Nursing Home for their care during the last three years.

Friends may gather with the family after 6:00 pm on Tuesday, November 10th at the Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church at Coal Mountain.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 11th at the Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Hatfield and the Rev. Allen Hatfield officiating.

Burial will follow in the Coal Mountain Community Cemetery.

He will be carried to his final resting place by family and friends.
