April 2, 1917

May 12, 2010

On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, a sweet and loving child of God, Maggie Marie Billups, 93 of Gilbert, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to join her loved ones waiting for her in heaven, from Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born in Lawrence county Kentucky on April 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Hoover Jeremiah and Catherine Stewart Hall.  Maggie was orphaned as an infant and was raised by her Aunt Molly and Uncle Newt in Mason county West Virginia.

In addition to her parents, her Aunt Molly and Uncle Newt,  she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-three years, C O “Dick” Billups and  her two sisters, Lorena and Minnie.

Maggie was a simple but kind  gentle spirit full of grace and wisdom.  She never met a person she could not love and always showed kindness to everyone.  She was a retired postal clerk for the Gilbert post office, and was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church at Justice.  Her family and friends will miss her dearly but they know that they will meet again.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of her wise Christian counsel and her love of family include her son, Robert E. and his wife Cathy Ritchie Billups of Gilbert; her grandchildren:  Dr. Matthew Brent and his wife Amanda Surber Billups of Callaway, Virginia; Hannah Marie and her husband William Bates III of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; her precious great grandchildren:  Matteson Scott and Madelynn Marie Billups, and Brandt Elliott Bates; a very special family member, Stoney Ritchie, and a host of other dear family and friends.

Friends may gather with the family at the First Missionary Baptist Church at Justice on Saturday, May 15th from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm.

Funeral services will follow at the church at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Jim Nagy officiating, and assisted by Brothers Timer May and Gary Justice.

Burial will follow at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens at Barboursville, West Virginia.

She will be carried to her final resting place, beside her husband, by the men of the church.

Junior honorary pallbearer is Hunter Nicholas.
