William "Bill" Vinson

William “Bill” Vinson, 81 of Gilbert, departed this life on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan WV.

Born on November 3, 1928, at Sarah Ann, he was the son of the late Douglas and Dora Spears Vinson.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by:  one son, William “Chuck” Vinson; five brothers:  Garland, Cecil, Johnny, Ezra, and Garnet Vinson; and one sister, Rella Clark.

Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He was a retired coal miner and of the Church of God faith.  He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in the Korean War. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are:  his loving wife, Norma “Mickey” Blackburn Vinson of Gilbert; his son, Randall (Dorene) Vinson of Wayside; his two daughters:  Eva Gail (Jackie) Blankenship and Tammy (Larry) Thomas, both of Baisden; his step-son, Jamie (Marlena) Matney of War Eagle;; his step-daughter, Tina (companion David) Cline of North Spring; his three brothers:  Doug (Kathryn) Vinson of Hanover, Estil (Delores) Vinson of Varney, and Asa Vinson of Varney; his five sisters:  Mable (Leroy) Camp of California, Mary (Jimmy) Scites of Dumfries VA, Delcia Christian of Richmond VA, Lydia (Andrew) McKenzie of Whitman, and Aline Scites of Rineyville KY; his ten grandchildren:  Kevin and Wesley Blankenship, Tiffany,  Brandon, and Verlin Ray Vinson, Larry II and Justin Thomas, Mary Ann Jordan, and Brandy and Jeremy Huff; his four great grandchildren:  Destiny Blankenship and Jayden Cline, Noah Jordan, and Raggaean Carter; his special friends:  Jeff Cline, “Big” Jim Hatfield, Sheriff Lonnie Hannah, Jerry Lyall, Sen. Truman Chaffin, Del. Harry Keith White, Elliott Maynard, Judge Mike Thornsbury, Eddie Hilbert, Captain George Spangler of the WV State Police, and many, many others.

Friends may gather with the family at the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer at Hampden on Monday, November 30th from 6 to 9 pm with a service at 7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 1st at the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer with the Rev. Denny May and the Rev. Diamond Carter officiating.

Burial will follow in the Justice Memorial Gardens at Justice.   Military grave side services will be performed by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #141 of Belfry KY.

He will be carried to his final resting place by family and friends.

Honorary pallbearer is Johnny Owens.
