William L. "Bill" Hawks, Sr.

William L. “Bill” Hawks, Sr., went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to join his loved ones waiting for him in heaven, on Saturday, February 20, 2010, from CAMC—Memorial Division at Charleston.

Born at Bluefield on March 22, 1937, he was the son of the late Otis G. Hawks, Sr. and Arietta Burnett Hawks Cruise.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Otis Hawks.

Bill was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He was a former prep plant operator, owner and operator of the Sears Merchant Catalog Store, Western Auto, and The Laurel Lodge.  He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church at Gilbert.  He always had a warm smile and friendly handshake for everyone he met.  He loved helping people, being outside in his yard, and spending time with his wonderful family.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to love and cherish his memory and to carry on his legacy include his loving wife of 54 years, Josephine Cline Hawks of Gilbert; his two wonderful sons:  William Lee “Billy” (Annette) Hawks, Jr. and David Michael “Mike” (Chris) Hawks, both of Gilbert; his beautiful daughter, Crystal (James) Rader of Winfield; his five wonderful and precious grandsons:  William Paul Hawks, Justin Kyle Hawks, Micah Hawks, Caleb Hawks, and Trey Rader; his brother, Ernest L. (Loraine) Hawks of San Jose, California; his four sisters:  Faye (Ernest) Doyle of Bluefield, Pansy Stevens and Irene (Darrow) Harman, both of The Divides, North Tazewell VA, and Burnell Rourke of Temperance, Michigan; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Tuesday, February 23rd from 6 to 9 pm.   A special singing service will be held at 7 pm.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 24th at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Lester officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby Heights, Pecks Mill.

He will be carried to his final resting place by:  James Rader, Jr., William Paul Hawks, Justin Kyle Hawks, Mack Birchfield, Randy Cline, Tommy and Ricky Belcher.

Honorary pallbearers are:  James Bartram and Leo Browning.

Junior pallbearers are:  Micah and Caleb Hawks.
