William MacArthur Kirk, Sr.

William MacArthur Kirk, Sr., 67 of Verner, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 22, 2010, from his residence.

Born on April 1, 1942 at Dingess, he was the son of the late Ray C. Meade and Nancy M. Kirk Vance.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lizzie Stroud Finley and Mac Kirk and Lorenza Dow and Anna Marcum Meade; and one granddaughter, Charity Lynn Rockel.

William was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He was a retired transportation director for the Mingo County Board of Education and a member of the Grace Baptist Church at Dingess.  He was a member of the AF & AM Masonic Blue Lodge #167 of Kermit, WV, 32° Mason of the Scottish Rite Body of Logan and Charleston, Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston, and the Oriental Band.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are:  his loving wife, Lucille Goodman Kirk of Verner; his son, William MacArthur (Patricia) Kirk, Jr., of Dingess; his two daughters:  Deborah Lynn (Larry) Rockel of Dingess and Elaine (Jeffery) Justice of Chapmanville; his two step-sons:  Bobby Grimmett of Gilbert and Brian Grimmett of North Carolina; his wonderful grandson, Larry Keith Rockel II of Dingess; his eight beautiful granddaughters:  Fallon Elaine (Brandon) Walker, Candace Leigh and Ariel Denise Rockel all of Dingess, Kayla Lee Ann and Lacey Rachelle Kirk both of Kermit, Kristen Nöel and Haley Danielle Justice of Chapmanville, and Candice Lucille Grimmett of Oceana; his precious great grandson, Braydon Hunter Walker of Dingess; his precious great granddaughter, Reagan Ty Collins of Kermit; his five brothers and seven sisters:  Evalina (Ernest) Lackey of Dingess, Wilburn L. (Brenda) Vance of 12 Pole, Wilkie (Marie) Meade of Aylett VA, Anna Matney of Oceana, John D. (Linda) Meade of Richmond VA, Judy Dooley of Shady Springs, Kathy (Bobby) Stafford of Sophia, Ray (Naomi) Meade, Jr., of Kopperston, Jeanie (Freddie) Dooley of Rice VA, Jerry (Belvia) Meade of Oceana, Cindy Massie of Pineville, and Sondra (Sam) Robinson of Beckley; his very special friends, Bill and Patty Bird and Bill and Judy Rhodes; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many close friends.

Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Monday, January 25th from 6 to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 26th at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Vance and Pastor Sam Vance officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Masonic Grave Side Rites will be performed by the Kermit Masonic Lodge.

He will be carried to his final resting place by members of the Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston.

In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
