Zionel E. Walker

A loving child of God, Zionel E. Walker, 84 of Justice, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his loved ones waiting for him in heaven, on Thursday, May 13, 2010, from CAMC—General Division at Charleston.
Born in Wyoming County on July 29, 1925, he was the son of the late Verlin and Tressie Blankenship Walker.
Zionel was a loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, traveling West Virginia, and fishing at the Outer Banks in North Carolina. He also loved spending time with his wonderful family and his friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a retired Gilbert High School teacher. He was a Born Again Christian, giving his life to the Lord at 6:00 pm on March 27, 2010. He was a life member of the Lions Club.
Zionel was a staff sergeant in the Eighth Air Force, he served his country as a waist gunner on a B17 Flying Fortress in the European Theater. A member of the 367th Bombardment Squadron, 306th Bombardment Group, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and World War II Victory Ribbon. Military graveside services will be performed by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #141 of Belfry KY.
Those left to love and cherish his memory and to carry on his legacy include his daughter, Yvonne (Bennie) Morgan of Justice; his son, Randy (Beth) Walker of Kernersville NC; his children's mother, Ruby Walker of Princeton; a very special lady, Shelva Ann Lester of Justice; his precious grandchildren: Monica (Lyndon) Cook of Asheville NC, and Andrew and Sarah Walker of Kernersville NC; his three precious great grandchildren: Morgan, Kylie, and Tristan Cook of Asheville NC; his four sisters: Zenith (Arnold) Harless of Clearfork, Rita (John) Anderson of Mobile AL, Sylvia (Donald) Murphy of Inverness FL, and Sheila (Richard) Darlington of Indialantic FL; his special caregivers: Charlie, Jessica, Kathey, Albert, and Melissa Lester; and a host of nieces, nephews, other dear family, and friends.
Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Monday, May 17th from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on May 17th at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arnold Harless officiating.
Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny.
He will be carried to his final resting place by: Andrew Walker, Lyndon Cook, Bennie Morgan , Zane Perry, Charlie Lester, and Michael Perry.
Honorary pallbearers are: Opal Perry, Mason Perry, Robert Billups, Billy Beheler, Cameron Hatfield, and Don Garrett.
