Hersel New

Hersel New, 88 of Panther, departed this life Sunday May 1, 2016 from his residence. Born February 7, 1928 at Baisden, he was the son of the late Johnson and Lean Patrick New. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife: Nada Kirk New; his children: Bobby, Sherman, Steve, Gene and Baby Boy New; grandchildren: Jerry New, Rodney Johnson and Sherry Lynn New: brothers: Charles Peanut New and Landola New; sister: Marie McCoy. Hersel was a retired coal miner from Blue Bird Coal Company. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. Those left to love and cherish the memory of Hersel are his wife: Mildred New of Panther; his children: Dewey (Sharon) New of Gilbert Creek, Deloris (Danny) Mahon of Wharncliffe, Annette (Chuckie) Morgan of Hanover, Terry (Melissa) New of Gilbert Creek, Beverly (Jeremy) Gibson of High Point, NC, and Lora (Joe Benny) Blankenship of Panther; his step-children: Terry (Booty) Blankenship, Susan (Jackie) Matney and Russell Blankenship; his brother; Russell (Shelina) New of Isaban; sister: Caffa Cline of Richmond, Va; 27 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of other family and friends. The family wishes to give special thanks to Santana Blankenship. Friends may gather with the family Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 6 to 9 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jonas Trent and Bro. Learman Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in the New Cemetery at Baisden. Hersel will be carried to his final resting place by pallbearers: Terry New, Josh New, Dock New, D.J. Justice, Blake Roberts and Justin New. He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
