Clayton G. Meade

Mr. Clayton G. Meade, age 90, departed this earth on February 6, 2018 at his home in Gilbert, WV after battling illness for some time. He was born on February 24, 1927 to the late Rev. Glen and Tennessee Mounts Meade at Glen Alum, WV.

Clayton would always quote the scripture that says “I’ll be with you always even unto the end of the world.” And, “He maketh a way even when there seems to be no way.” And he lived by this.

Clayton started his career as a parts manager for W&E Chevrolet, Matewan, WV, in the 50’s. He moved to Gilbert in 1961 to start Meade Chevrolet and retired and sold the business in 1997. He was successful in many business endeavors in Gilbert and finished his life there with the people he loved.

He was very active and supportive of the Pentecostal Church of God in Newtown and the Justice Church of God.

In addition to his parents, Clayton is preceded in death by sisters, Ival Dingus, Eunice Kirk, and Myrtle Hatfield and brothers, Ralph and David Joe Meade.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Glema, of the home, and daughter Lou Ann Morris (Dan) of Pearisburg, VA, and son Kenny Meade (Elizabeth) of Justice, WV, and honorary adopted son Leonard Cresong (Dorisue), Bassett, VA.

Clayton also leaves behind grandchildren, Angela Lockhart (Troy), North Springs, WV; Amelia Elander (Michael), Richmond, VA; Kerrie Hurley (Terrence), Pearisburg, VA; Kayla Lester (Hassel), Baisden, WV; and Matthew Meade, Justice, WV. Also, nine great grandchildren will miss their Papaw, and several sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews are left to remember him.

Special friends and family include: Rev. Bill and Shirley Cresong, Butch and IvaDean Daugherty, Janet Cline, Mark Kirk, Gary Ellis, Big Jim Hatfield, Stewart Justice, Larry Hatfield, Jim and Marsha Halstead, Dorothy and Sharon Cline, Bill Muncy and many others. Also left to mourn Clayton is his beloved, 4-legged best friend, Duke. Pallbearers are Jim and David Kirk, Matthew Meade, Larry Hatfield, Johnny Wiley, and Michael Elander. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Kirk, Butch Daugherty, Dan Morris, Big Jim Hatfield, Terrence Hurley, and Ronnie Tickle.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 1:00 PM, with visitation starting at 11:30 A.M, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert. Rev. Bill Cresong and Rev. Randy Casey will officiate. Entombment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Logan, WV.
