Douglas Chapman Obituary

Douglas Eddie Chapman, 53 of Gilbert, departed this life to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 29, 1965 at Welch, WV he was the son of Eddie and Gay (Testerman) Chapman.

Doug was preceded in death by his sister: Victoria Chapman Brown; nephews: Andreau Chapman Morgan, Roger Todd Hatfield, Whitey May; grandparents: Montana & Maple “Squirt” Chapman and Lavern Testerman; sister in law: Monique May; brother in law: Freddie Jay Cline; special aunt: Juneau Wills.

Doug grew up with and spent 34 years of his life on Earth with Sam, the love of his life. They began their family in 1989 when Joshua was born. A few years later, his precious daughter, Sara came along. Doug and Sam enjoyed spending time with their children and, later in life, their daughter-in-law, Nicole. More recently, Doug was blessed with three amazing grandchildren--Kailee, Jaxon, and Jaelee, who he adored.

In 1982, while still in high school, Doug began hauling coal for his father. Later, his loads transitioned from coal to lumber, logs, and sand. At one time, he was working/managing 18 trucks. He often referred to his beloved Peterbilt truck as The Blue Mule. Currently he has three sand trucks actively working.

Throughout his career, he continued to transport materials. From time to time he found it necessary to haul loads outside of his local community; however, he always returned home to resume working daily, side by side, with his dad.

Doug loved all 70s and 80s music. His Bucket List consisted of several concerts that he wanted to attend. Even though his health was failing, he was able to attend several of these concerts this past year. He jokingly referred to this as his “Farewell Tour.”

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Doug and to mourn his passing include his loving wife: Sam Chapman of Gilbert; his two precious children: Joshua (Nicole) Chapman and Sarah Chapman both of Baisden; his grandchildren: Kailee, Jaxon and Jaelee Chapman of Baisden; his parents: Eddie and Gay Chapman of Baisden; sister: Missy (Dwayne) Cline of Logan; grandmother: Virginia Testerman of Teays Valley; mother and father in law: Butch & Kathy Cline of Hanover; nephew: Madison (Whitney) Brown of Huntington; niece: Tristan (Kyle) Layne of Hanover, sister in law: Cindy Cline of Tennessee; great niece: Briella Grace Brown of Huntington; great nephew: Bentley Layne of Hanover; and a host of other dear family and friends.
