Elva Hatfield, 91, of Coal Mountain, departed this life on Saturday, May 11, 2019, from her residence.
Born July 7, 1927, at Red Jacket, she was the daughter of the late Tolva and Pricie Miller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Davis; her second husband, Bernard Hatfield; brothers: Raymond, Brooks, Elliot, Eltis “Buck,” Ray, Spurgeon, Bill, Doc Miller and Kara "Kerry" Miller; and sisters: Fallie Miller Deskins and Joann Miller Baisden, and one son-in-law, Alton West.
Elva was a loving person who always had a smile on her face. The matriarch of her family, she devoted her life to caring for her family. Elva attended the Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church when she was able. Throughout her life, she held several job positions working as a school cook, a postal worker, and a truck driver. In her spare time, Elva enjoyed gardening and solving crossword puzzles.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Elaine West and Katrina (Ronald) Cline all of Coal Mountain; three granddaughters: Amanda Laney of Hanover, Megan (Pebo) Browning of Coal Mountain, and Rena (Tony) Argabright of Clear Fork; great-grandchildren: Kaylee Argabright and Hannah Argabright both of Clear Fork, Ally Laney of Hanover and Kristofer Browning of Coal Mountain; special friend, Diana Hatfield of Coal Mountain. Elva also leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of other dear relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Louie Collings and Rev. Alvin Browning officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm.
To honor Elva’s wishes, her remains have been cremated.
She is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
