John Bentley

John Bentley, 68 of Gilbert, departed this life on Sunday, August 5, 2018 from Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born August 20, 1949 at Lando Mines, WV he was the son of the late Alex Monroe & Lula (Cook) Bentley.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters: Betty Sprinkle and Joanne Scarbro; brothers: Alex Jr., Fran, Warren and Fred Bentley.

John was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA.  He was also a member of the Iaeger Masonic Lodge #148.  John loved to deer and rabbit hunt.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of John and to mourn his passing include his wife: Barbara Rollyson Bentley of Gilbert; three children: Lisa (Keith) Hatfield of Gilbert, Johnna (Matthew) Cline of Hamer, SC and Derek Bentley of Gilbert; grandchildren: Chase Bentley of Gilbert, Jeanna Cline of Hamer, SC, Jon-Jon Hatfield of Gilbert, Jessica Hatfield of Gilbert, Jacob Cline of Hamer, SC and an expected grandson in November 2018; brother: Mark Bentley of Barboursville; four sisters: Naomi (Kirk) Cunningham of Alabama, Peggy Collins of Prestonsburg, Charlotte (Jim) Hall of Cross Lanes and Kay Maynard of South Point, OH; many nieces and nephews and a host of other dear family and friends.

Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the Gilbert Church of God, Gilbert, WV.  Funeral services will commence at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Lowell Smith and Rev. Diamond Carter officiating.

Burial will follow at Justice Memorial Gardens, Justice, WV. Masonic graveside rites will be provided by the Iaeger Masonic Lodge #148. 

John will be carried to his final resting place by Chase Bentley, Jon-Jon Hatfield, Keith Hatfield, Matthew Cline, George Wheatley, Ben Wheatley, and Bobby Rollyson.

Honorary pallbearers include: Ranny Grimmett, Tommy Gilco, Bo Brewer, Dave Harrison, Jimmie Tiller, Dave May and Donny Boren.

He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
