Joseph Edmund Hatfield

Joseph Edmund Hatfield, 80 of Gilbert, departed this life Friday, December 14, 2018 from Broadmore Senior Living, Hurricane, WV.

Born on July 3, 1938 at Glen Alum, he was the son of the late Chess (Chester) and Ellen (Harrison) Hatfield.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years: Burma (Highlander) Hatfield; his son: Jeffery Kent Hatfield; brothers: Carl and Ralph Hatfield.

Joe had worked for Mounts Motor Sales and Peak Ford Sales as a car salesman, and he had owned his own used car lot for many years.  Joe was a supervisor for the W.V. Dept. of Highways, Gilbert outpost, he was also an active member of the Gilbert Kiwanis and Gilbert Lions Club.  He had served as the former Mayor, Councilman, and Fire Chief for the Town of Gilbert.  He was also a former Mingo County Board of Education member.  Joe was a board member of the Mingo-Logan Mental Health, and of the Mingo County Solid Waste Authority Board.  He was a graduate of Gilbert High School Class of 1957.

Those left to love and cherish his memory and to mourn his loss are his daughter: Valice (Ken) Hatfield of Scott Depot; his son: Gregory Scott Hatfield of Charleston; grandchildren: Kendra (Aaron) Eshbaugh of Davidson, NC., Mandy (Auturo) Manantan of Chapel Hill, NC., Kristina (Drew) Keaton of Hamlin, WV., Jeffrey Scott Hatfield (Cheryl Wagner) of St. Albans, WV.; his great-grandchildren: Bryce and Julianna Keaton, and Alexander Eshbaugh; his step-great grandchild: Leia Manantaa; sister: Janice (late Larry) Radford of Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law: Ivadenae (late Ralph) Hatfield of Williamson, WV.; a special niece: Jane Mitchell; special friends: Eddie and Karen Grimmett and Ronnie Buck Hatfield.  He also leaves behind a host of other dear relatives and friends.  The family wishes to give a special thanks to the staff of Broadmore Senior Living for the care they gave to Joe.

Friends may gather with the family Monday, December 17, 2018 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Gilbert Presbyterian Church, where funeral services will commence at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Jay Nunley officiating.  Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny, WV.

Joe will be carried to his final resting place by his family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Grimmett, Ronnie Buck Hatfield, Curtis Lester, Doc Grimmett, Randy Livingood, Tim Rutledge and Clinton Lester.

He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
