Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Allen Holcomb, 80, formerly of Hanover, WV and a resident of Golden Harvest Long Term Care, passed away peacefully August 14, 2018 at Charleston Area Medical Center following a short illness.
Born June 25, 1938 in Logan County, WV she was the daughter of the late Ulysses Allen and Sadie Morgan Allen. She is the last surviving member of her family.
She was a homemaker, loved to decorate her home, and spend time with her family, loved listening to her favorite song “Long Black Train”, and her special visits at the care home from “her preacher” Dennis Lester.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Holcomb and one daughter Teresa Helen Lester Bragg; four brothers: Walter, Joseph Jr., Billy, and Willy Allen; three sisters: Ruth Vincent, Ruby Bartram, and Josie Whitlock Ellis.
Survivors include her two daughters: Debbie (Elbert) Cline of Hanover, Renee (Robert) Grimmett of Hampden; two sons: Timothy (Tina) Holcomb of Hanover, Jeff (Alicia) Holcomb of Hanover.
She was a beloved mother and grandmother to seven grandchildren: Bo Cline, Jimmy Lee Bragg, Bethany Holcomb, Hannah Holcomb, Danielle Wolford, Robert Jr. Grimmett, and Brandon Holcomb and twelve great-grandchildren. One special niece Beatrice Kuhn and special friend Carol Grimmett. Mary had made several friends throughout the years at Golden Harvest, she will be greatly missed by all.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the facility and nursing staff at Golden Harvest Long Term Care Facility.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Pads Fork Freewill Baptist Church, Steeles, WV. Funeral services will commence at 1:00 pm at the church with the Rev. Dennis Lester officiating.
Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
Mary will be carried to her final resting place by Jimmy Lee Bragg, Bo Cline, Brandon Holcomb, Robert Grimmett Jr., Larry Wolford Jr., Caleb Endicott, Hunter Cline and honorary pallbearer Harry Grimmett.
