Ward Lee Mitchell, 69, of Wharncliffe, WV departed this life Thursday May 23, 2019 from UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
He was born February 11, 1950 at Gilbert, WV to the late Connie and Vernie Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, Ward was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Morris Mitchell formerly of Gilbert, and his sister Sheila Curtis formerly of New Mexico.
Ward joined the U.S. Army in 1969 where he was a jumper and packed parachutes. During his 3 years of active duty with the Army, he finished his high school diploma, and went on to complete 3 years of non-active duty service.
Ward was a retired Coal Miner of 28+ years, and a devoted husband to his loving wife, Rita Ward for 45+ years.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Ward are his wife, Rita of Wharncliffe; one daughter, Angela Diane Mitchell of Wharncliffe; one son, Jason Lee (Amanda) Mitchell of Huff Creek; one granddaughter, Leandrea Skyler Mitchell also of Huff Creek; four sisters: Patricia Bartram of Gilbert, Phyllis Davis of Justice, Peggy Stevens of Charleston, and Reba Morgan of Florida; one brother, Danny Mitchell of Charleston.
Ward was respected and liked by lots of people. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and neighbors.
Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 7:00 pm with the Rev. Danny Ward officiating.
To respect Ward’s wishes, his remains will be cremated.
