Willis Gene Lester

Willis Gene Lester, 73, of Hanover, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 5, 2019, from Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born November 18, 1945, at Welch, he was the son of the late William B. and Ardith (Browning) Lester.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

A family man, Willis was very devoted to his beautiful wife of 50 years, his daughter and son-in-law, and his granddaughter, whom he loved watching play softball. A devout Christian and member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Gilbert, he loved his church family and singing for the Lord. Willis also enjoyed traveling and driving his ’57 Chevy. Throughout his life, Willis held membership with several organizations including: Order of the Eastern Star, Iaeger Masonic Lodge No. 148, Scottish Rite, Shriners, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. Willis will long be remembered for his gentle spirit and kindness to others.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Penny Sue (Cline) Lester; his beloved daughter, Anita Roberts and her husband, Jimmy, of Cleveland, NC; his precious granddaughter, Hannah E. Roberts of Cleveland, NC; three brothers: Curtis “Sammy” Lester of Baileysville, Roger (Sharon) Lester of Coal Mountain, and Jimmy (Rose) Lester of Ohio; two sisters: Donna (David) Thompson and Lynn Justice all of Hanover; one special brother-in-law, Rodney (Genny) Cline of Hanover; one special sister-in-law, Eva Wayman of Pineville. Willis also leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with a host of other dear relatives and friends.

Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel from 6-9 pm. Funeral services will commence on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ronnie Lester and Rev. Jackie Grimmett officiating.

Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny where Masonic Graveside Rites will be provided by the Iaeger Masonic Lodge No. 148. 

Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Toler, Allan Cline, Kendall Cline, Mark Lester, Neil Cline, David Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Bucky Allsbrook, and Bobby Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be: Frank Wayman, Rodney Cline, Darren Thomas, Stanley Thomas, and Keith Browning.

He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
