Berthel Thomas "Tommy" Kennedy

Berthel Thomas “Tommy” Kennedy, 68 of Hanover, WV departed this life Sunday, January 8, 2023, following a long illness.

Born on October 2, 1954 at Iaeger, WV he was the son of the late Berthel Houston and Mable (Altizer) Kennedy.

In addition to his parents, Tommy is also preceded in death by one brother Charles (Sonny) Kennedy and one sister Sharon Kay Keneda.

Tommy was a Coal Miner of 25 years; he devoted his life to taking care of his family.  He enjoyed spending time with his wife, watching TV, and fiddling around with his woodworking.  He was of the Baptist Faith.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years: Darlena (Bishop) Kennedy; his 3 children: Tonya Mitchem and Christopher Kennedy, both  of Coal City, WV and Amanda Kennedy of Hanover, WV; 8 grandchildren: Vaughn, Ronald (Pokey) and Megan Mitchem, Caleb Kennedy, all of Coal City; Mark Tyson, Layla, James and Frankie Cook of Hanover, WV; 4 great grandchildren and 1 on the way; sister: Judith Hatfield of NC.  He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Friends may gather with the family Friday, January 13, 2023 from 6:00 till 9:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, where funeral services will commence on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jonas “Joe Peck” Trent officiating. Burial will follow in the Morgan Cemetery at Garden Gap, Hanover, WV.

Tommy will be carried to his resting place by his family and friends.

His wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
