Betty Zane Callaway

Betty Zane Callaway, 73, of Oak Hill, went peacefully to be with Jesus on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from Hidden Valley Center, Oak Hill, WV.

Born on July 18, 1952, at Glen Alum, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Lake (Browning) Callaway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Wanda Smith, Kathy Johnson, Linda Denton, and Reita Ball; brother: Jim Callaway; four aunts: Dorcus Trent, Sadie Ellis, Etta Mae May, and Juanita Toler; and three uncles: Paul, Silas, and Tabor Browning.

Betty was a member of the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer and loved her Savior deeply.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Betty was a graduate of Gilbert High School and loved doing arts and crafts, but her greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great grandchildren who all knew her as “Nanny Betty”.

Those left to love and cherish the memories of Betty are her four children: Bridgett Davis of Bolt WV, Gynell Brown of Ashland KY, Larry Callaway of Chicago IL, and Eric (Rian) Callaway of Wharncliffe WV; grandchildren: Sarah (Jacob) Woolum, Mycah Callaway, Takoda (Sophia) Brown, Baylee Brown, Gabriel Callaway, Waylon Callaway, Braydon Callaway; great grandchildren: Cambreigh Butcher, and Asher and Brynlee Callaway.

Special thanks to Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer, all of whom she considered family, and Hidden Valley Nursing Home in Oak Hill for the wonderful care they showed her.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
