Charles Oliver Lawson, 84, of Johnnycake, Iaeger, WV, formerly of Mohawk, WV, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025, in Johnnycake, West Virginia. Charles was born July 12th, 1940, in Mohawk, WV, a son of the late Thomas Oliver and Bertha Blankenship Lawson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Pearl Lawson Bailey, Edith Lawson Davidson, Alma Lawson Goebel, Wilma Lawson Hatfield and Anna Lawson Bailey; and three brothers, Raymond Lawson, Walter "Punk" Lawson and Fred Lawson.
Charles was a lifelong politician and very active in the community. His service included the McDowell executive committee and the McDowell County commission. He also served McDowell County as chief field deputy for the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office and was shot in the line of duty in 1989.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Judith “Jackie” Jacqueline Perdue Lawson; his two sons, Charles Lawson Jr of Johnnycake, West Virginia; Thomas Lawson Sr and wife Abagail of Johnnycake, West Virginia; four grandchildren, T.J. Lawson Jr of Johnnycake, WV, Kristin Lawson of Johnnycake, WV, Hailey Lawson and fiancé Keyshawn of Athens, WV, and Bryce Lawson and fiancée Haley of Johnnycake, WV; his special niece Karen Hatfield Stein and husband Gary of Tampa, FL; and special nephew Brian Hatfield of Sarasota, FL.
The family wants to express their gratitude for the show of support thus far from everyone.
