Charles Ray Thomas, 65, of Gilbert, WV., departed from this life on Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at Hilltop Center in Hilltop, WV. Born March 15, 1959 in Welch, WV., he was the son of the late Grover and Ruth (Blankenship) Thomas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Elmer Sutters, sisters Gloria Poe and Bonnie Richards, and longtime performance friend Gerald Mullins.
Those left to love and cherish Charles’ memory and mourn his loss are his siblings Robert (Michelle) and Larry (Tammy) Thomas, and Wanda Bentley; nieces and nephews, David (Darlene), Doyle (Melissa), and Timmy Richards, Ruth Browning, Larry (Candace) Thomas Jr, Juston (Amanda) Thomas, Megan Davis, and Josh (Stephany) Thomas and his longtime performance friends, Joe Ford and Brock Whitt.
Charles was a retired truck driver and equipment operator, but his passion was deeply rooted in music. From a young age, Charles was exposed to music by way of his family and later began singing in the Thomas Trio with his late sister and father. His love of making and sharing music grew over time. He traveled across the state to perform in addition to hosting country music karaoke nights every Saturday night at Lizard Creek Park where interested parties from southern WV came together to perform, collaborate, dance, and enjoy each other’s company.
Charles brought an infectious smile and laughter wherever he went, striving to bring that same joy and laughter to those he loved. He lived his life to the fullest and had a collection of stories to support his claim.
The absence that Charles leaves behind will resonate with his family and friends.
Friends may gather with family from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Riverview Freewill Baptist Church in Riverview, WV for calling hours. Funeral services will begin promptly at 2:00pm officiated by Rev. Michael Browning and Rev. Clyde Endicott. Per his request, his remains will be cremated and placed to rest at the Thomas Memorial Cemetery.
