Charles "Chuck" Altizer Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Everett Altizer went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 29th, 2026, having fought hard for his health to stay with his family.

Born October 14, 1954, in Logan WV to Charles Altizer and Nell (Randan) Altizer.  He would grow up near Detroit, Michigan and Titusville, Florida before country roads brought him back home to WV. He married Carol Riggs of Gilbert in November of 1977. He and Carol worked for Gilbert Ambulance, owned by his in-laws, Eddie and Madeline Riggs, for many years, giving him memories and stories he loved to share. In 1984, he was given the name Daddy, with the birth of his first daughter Kristen, and again in 1987 with his daughter Elizabeth. He was a proud girl Dad and spent his life being the very best Daddy in the world.  He provided for his family driving a truck and loved every minute. Whether it was coal, lumber, orange juice or being over the road, he saw the country behind the wheel of a semi and was proud of his million-mile safe driver status.  He could tell you how to get to most every city/town in the US without a map, especially if there was a Waffle House nearby. He enjoyed NASCAR, listened to classic country and bluegrass music, could tell you every classic car he came across, loved Morrison’s chicken livers and drank Mtn Dew like it was going out of style.

In 2008, his proudest adventure began with the birth of his Granddaughter Madeline Elizabeth Hannah, now a Pop Pop after years of raising his girls. Madeline quickly became his baby and “number one girl”. In 2009, he finally got a boy when his first grandson Robert “Bobby” Jewell came into his life, and “Bobbidy-B” became his best Bud. For the next 11 years Madeline and Bobby had their Pop Pop to themselves until 2020 when his pride and joy stole his heart. Clayton “Bubba” Fischer Hannah has been Pop Pop’s baby for almost 6 years, being inseparable and attached at the hip since his Pop first held him.

Leaving behind a legacy of love for his family, he will be remembered as a fiery red head with blue eyes and a kind smile, a quick temper and heavy foot in his younger days who slowed down in his older days to enjoy time spent with his family.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father Charles Everett Altizer and mother Nell (Randan) Altizer, as well as his beloved son-in-law David Jewell and best friend John Browning.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Riggs) Altizer of Ormond Beach, Florida, daughters Kristen (Todd) Hannah of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Elizabeth Jewell of Ormond Beach, Florida. Grandchildren Madeline Elizabeth Hannah and Clayton Fischer Hannah of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Robert “Bobby” Richard Jewell of Deltona, Florida. Sisters: Alice McClannahan of Damascus, Va and Margaret (Jeff) Calabrese of Daytona Beach, Florida.  Along with a long list of loved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He will also be missed by his friends who became family and were so loved by him; Joe and Kathy Bowen (and their family) of Harts, WV, and his honorary brothers Paul Riggs of Lester, WV, Butch and Don Don Browning (and their families) of Verner, WV.

Friends may gather with the family on Friday, April 3, 2026, in the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home from 6:00 till 9:00 p.m. with special services beginning at 7:00 p.m.  with Pastor Ronnie Lester officiating.
