Danny Wayne Browning

Danny Wayne Browning, 83 of Wharncliffe, WV gained his heavenly wings on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 with his loving wife of 65 years, Martha, by his side. Danny was born on October 22, 1941 in Wharncliffe, WV, and is preceded in death by his parents, Joda and Beatrice Browning and his brother, Jay.

Danny was a 1959 graduate of Gilbert High School. He was a member of the band and an accomplished trumpet player. Danny graduated from Huntington Barber College and worked as a barber in Williamson, WV with his grandfather, Roy, for several years. In 1972, he began work as a tire salesman for Wholesale Tire and remained with the company until his retirement in 2006.

Danny enjoyed sports of all kinds, but he especially enjoyed being a high school basketball and football referee for 34 years. The nightly tales of the referees never failed to entertain and bring a smile to those who heard them. Danny served as a Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster for the Wharncliffe Troup 431 in the late 1960s. He served as a role model for the young men in the group to become outstanding members of the community. Traveling with Martha was a source of joy for Danny as they visited several states and journeyed overseas to Israel three times. Many will remember Danny as an avid harmonica player, as many enjoyed his musical talent at church services.

Danny is survived of his wife of 65 years, Martha, and his children, Penetha Robertson (Mark), and Robert Browning, as well as two special granddaughters, Hope Robertson and Whitney Faile (Bradley), and three precious great-grandchildren Waylon, Cayson, and Everly Faile.  He is also survived by brothers Douglas Browning (Patty), Woodrow Browning (Rita), and his sister Sue Coughlin (Jeg).

Danny will be remembered for his wit and especially his way with storytelling and “would you rather” questions. His friendly manner and smile for everyone in his path was a true treasure for all he knew and encountered. Danny was a man of God, and he enjoyed studying the Bible and fellowship with his church family at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home with Pastor Denny May officiating. A private burial service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025.
