Darrell Tyler Farmer, 57 of Verner, WV departed this life Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from his residence.  Born August 10, 1966 in Logan, WV he was the son of the late Blake and Lois (Carter) Farmer.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his siblings: Charlotte Davis, Lora Harper, Marlene Frye, and Steven Farmer; his mother-in-law: Shirley Davis.

Darrell proudly served his country by joining the Army after graduating high school.  He served both at home and abroad in Korea for several years.  After his first military stint he attended and graduated from West Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.  Darrell worked for many years at Action Youth Care as a Case Manager working with children and families.  He then transitioned to work as a Social Worker for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in Logan, reaching the levels of both Youth Service Supervisor and later Child Protective Service Supervisor at his retirement.

Also, during these years Darrell joined the West Virginia National Guard reaching the rank of Sergeant.  Darrell relished in the opportunity and the privilege of being part of the conflict in Iraq and sacrificed much time and effort into serving his country and ensuring the nations safety.

Darrell spent the next years of his life caring for and attending to the needs of his family and friends.  Darrell was a man of few words but was always as steady as the sun and was someone who could always be counted on when needed.  Darrell was always quick to place his own needs and wants to the side to make sure that others were safe, satisfied, and content.  He never complained and never said no, even on days or at times that he truly may not have felt like it or been able he still did for others and saw to it that his family were well taken care of and had anything they needed or wanted.

Darrell enjoyed fishing on the piers in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and he liked to do landscaping and yard work to his home and yard in Verner and worked tirelessly to make sure it looked pleasing.  However, without a doubt and above all else Darrell loved and cherished spending time with and taking care of his family.

Darrell is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 30 years: Rebecca (Davis) Farmer of Verner, WV; his three daughters who he adored and loved: Cassidy (Willis) Adkins of Delbarton, WV, Katherine (Ryan) Bragg of Talbott, TN, Christina Farmer (Courtney Grubb) of Oak Hill, WV; brother-in-law: Zeke Davis (Shannon Jude) of Logan, WV; Darrell was known as “Poppy” to: Levi Jesse Davis (Megan Marie Fouch) of Verner, WV, Keegan Ray and Patrick Scott Adkins of Delbarton, WV, Magnolia June Bragg and Audrianna Denise Bragg of Talbott, TN, Rylan Steele, Ryker Kaine, and Rhave Jagger Grubb of Oak Hill, WV; siblings: Jerry (Edna) Farmer of Chicago, IL, Jamie (Paul) Frye, Nancy (Ron) Holbrook, all of Logan, WV, Melissa Farmer of Hurricane, WV;  nieces and nephews: Sandra Farmer, Kimberly (Bob) Maziarz, Tyler Fender, Lesley Stone, Tonya Perry, Joanna Vance, Samantha (Kenny) Spencer, Steven (Tiffany) Holbrook, Chyanne Farmer, Madison (Remington) Mowery; several great nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind a host of other dear relatives and friends.

Friends may gather with the family Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 12:00 till 2:00 pm in the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home where funeral services will commence at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tommie Cline and Rev. Rodney Robinette officiating.  Burial will follow in the Browning Cemetery at Verner, WV.

Darrell will be carried to his resting place by pallbearers: Joe, Joey, and Jack Tilley, Mark Blankenship, James Harvey, Arlie and Gary Griffin, Zachery Spencer, Steven Holbrook.

Honorary pallbearers are: Darrell’s neighbors whom he thought so highly of: Rev. Tommie Cline, Tom Lester, James Justice, Eli and Wade Thomas, Jerry Farmer, Ron Holbrook, Paul Frye, Willis Adkins, Ryan Bragg, Levi and Zeke Davis.

Military Honors will be provided by Iaeger VFW Post 1144 and the WV Army Honor Guard.

His wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
