David Ellis Obituary

David Gary Ellis, 66 of Gilbert, West Virginia departed his life on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

David was born September 2, 1956 at Clarks Clinic in Iaeger, West Virginia to the late Charles and Audra (Nester) Ellis. 

In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by his brothers Charles “Bug” Ellis, Jr., and Terry Ellis. His brother and sister-in-law, Charles Britt & Lisa Ellis. Special uncle/friend Michael “Possum” Ellis.

David was a 1974 Gilbert High School Alumni. David was a vivid athlete in High School with basketball and football. He enjoyed music, including being number 1 in the state of West Virginia for drumming and he played in a band named “Arabesque” in the 70’s. David coached Little League and High School Basketball through his daughter’s elementary and high school years. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, fishing, riding four-wheelers, fast cars and was known to be a ladies’ man. David was a coal miner for many years and then found a passion for carpentry. David and his son, Heath, worked side-by-side installing inground swimming pools and general contract with housing.

David is survived by his son: David Heath Ellis of Hanover, West Virginia; his daughters: Ashley (Lloyd) Mullins of Tamcliffe, West Virginia, Shelley (Casey) Shepherd of Lexington, North Carolina, and Linsey (Justin) Kidd of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; his sister: Sherry Britt of Sprattsville, West Virginia; his sister-in-law: Jennifer Ellis of Lugoff, South Carolina. David was extremely proud of his grandchildren. Those left in his memory are Devan, Destiny, Daylee, and Atticus Ellis, Irelyn (Pumpkin), Ian, and Iker Mullins, Cayson, Grayson and Payson Amelia Shepherd, and Atlee and Taylin Kidd. Great grandson Dawcyn Smith. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

David’s final wishes were to be cremated with a small gathering with his children and grandchildren to celebrate his life.

We love you Dad/Papaw David. You will forever be in our hearts cherishing your memory.

He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
