Delmer Eugene Blankenship, 67 of Gilbert, departed this life on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from his residence.
Born on October 3, 1954 at Welch, WV., he was the son of the late Troy and Rosie (Hatfield) Blankenship.
Delmer was a retired Elementary School Principal, he loved sports, especially his beloved Bengals and Reds. Whether it was fixing something broken, or building something from scratch, he loved working with his vast collection of tools. He was a great handy man and what he didn’t know how to fix, he would always find a solution.
He was a father, coach, teacher, and principal who touched many lives. He loved telling stories and giving advice. His life changed the lives of many people. He is loved and greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Sharon Heights Assembly Church and had worked for the Mingo County Board of Education.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years: Deborah (Cline) Blankenship of the home; daughter: Erica Blankenship; son: Alex Blankenship, both of Verner, WV; sister: Pam Fischer of Louisa, VA; brothers: Rodney (Kim) Blankenship of Wharncliffe, WV., Darrick (Rebecca) Blankenship of Louisville, TN; very special person in his life: Delmer Blankenship, Sr. of Baisden, WV. He also leaves behind a host of other dear relatives and friends.
To honor his wishes, he was cremated.
A memorial of his life will be held in the coming weeks.
