Delmer Blankenship, 91 of Baisden, WV left this world for his Heavenly Home, from his residence on Sunday, October 22, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Troy Sr. and Rosa (Hatfield) Blankenship.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Delmer Eugene (Debbie) Blankenship, multiple brothers and sisters, his son-in-law, Mark Fischer, and the love of his life, his wife of almost 61 years, Shirley Ann Blankenship.
Delmer gave his life to Christ on May 25, 1997. He was a member of the Church of Christ located in Gilbert, WV.
He was a retired coal miner. Delmer loved working in the coal mines. He was known to be one of the hardest working coal miners at Buffalo Mining Company located in Logan, WV. He dedicated 40 years to his profession and was a loyal member of the UMWA District 17 Chapter. Delmer loved his family more than anything. He provided for them throughout his life. He enjoyed working in his garden, watching his favorite baseball team: The Cincinnati Reds, pickling corn, and staying outdoors; especially deer hunting.
Delmer’s legacy of hard work, dedication, love, and kindness will live on in those who love and adored him: his sons: Rodney Joe Blankenship (Kim) of Wharncliffe, WV and Darrick Shane Blankenship (Rebecca) of Louisville, TN; one daughter Pamela Hope Fischer of Mineral, VA; one very special sister Nina Cline of Baisden, WV. Six wonderful grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart: Erica Blankenship and Alex Blankenship of Gilbert, WV, Ashton Hope Walls (Jon) of Wharncliffe, WV, Mackenzie Leigh Roper (Jay) of Gum Spring, VA, Troy Joseph Fischer of Mineral, VA and Briley Hope Blankenship of Louisville, TN; two precious great grandchildren: Jenson Wade Walls of Wharncliffe, WV and Lawrence Mac-Lee Roper of Gum Spring, VA. Delmer leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear neighbors/family.
Friends and Family may gather with the family Friday, October 27, 2023 from 12:00pm - 2:00pm at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will take place afterwards with Pastor Barry Cline, his great nephew, officiating. Burial will follow at Hatfield Cemetery at Sharon Heights, WV.
Delmer will be carried to his final resting place by: Darrick Blankenship, Pamela Fischer, Troy Fischer, Doug Blankenship, Jon Walls, and his best friend, Freddie McNeely.
A very special thanks goes out to his loving and dedicated caregivers/angels: Janet Gibson, Alice Murphy, Crystal Jordan, and Nadean Davis.
His wonderful smile, kind heart, and friendly nature will live on in all those who were blessed to have known and loved him.
