On Tuesday, July 13, 2021, Denisa Lynn Thomas passed away at CAMC Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Denisa was born on June 14, 1968, in Mullens, WV to Don Cook and Kathy (Hatfield) Hedrick.
Denisa was also proceeded in death by grandparents Freeman Hatfield, Gibson and Kathleen Acord and Harold and Phoebe Cook.
She completed her lifelong dream of obtaining her master’s degree in counseling at Lindsey Wilson College. Denisa was a passionate educator/school counselor at the Wyoming County Board of Education where she touched the lives of countless people and children. Denisa was a devoted wife to Frankie Thomas with whom she just celebrated 24 years of marriage; a doting mother to 2 sons, Deric Gullett and Tanner Thomas; and an adoring Nana to Braxton, Levi, and Emma Gullett. Denisa loved nothing more than spending time with her family, friends, and colleagues. She liked to travel, was an animal lover, sports enthusiast, and a woman of God. She was a member of Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her loving personality, positivity, and contagious smile.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Frankie Thomas; children: Deric Gullett (and wife Ashley) and Tanner Thomas; grandchildren: Braxton, Levi and Emma Gullett; mother: Kathy and stepfather Leroy Hedrick; father: Don Cook; brothers: Russell (and wife Maria) Cook, and Rocky Cook; stepsister: Linda Hedrick-Rector; and stepbrother: Ricky Hedrick; mother-in-law: Goldie Thomas; sister-in-law: Melissa Thomas; along with countless cousins, family, friends and colleagues.
Friends may gather with the family for a celebration of her life, Sunday, July 18th from 12-3:00 pm at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert, where funeral services will commence at 3:00 pm with Rev. Glenn Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Coal Mountain Community Cemetery at Coal Mountain, WV.
A Scholarship has been created in loving memory of Denisa. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to The Denisa Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund at the First Community Bank.
Her wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved her.
