Donald Birchfield Jr., of Bullcreek West Virginia, passed away on May 29, 2026 at Welch Community Hospital, Welch, WV. Born March 5, 1955 in McDowell County, WV; Donald was the son of the late Donald Sr. and Alice (Bailey) Birchfield.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his three brothers: Johnny, Randy, and Andrew Birchfield; his sister: Nancy Birchfield; and his father-in-law: General Bailey.
A loving husband, grandfather, father, brother, and brother-in-law, Donald spent 27 years as an underground coal miner, as well as 13 years as the owner/operator of AJ trucking, where he hauled asphalt and was known to his trucking family as “Brother-in-law”. In retirement, Donald enjoyed watching his favorite sports and spending time with family and friends, especially his precious granddaughter and pride and joy, Ava Jade. Donald enjoyed working with wood and spending time in the cabin he built with his family. He was well thought of by his family and friends.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Regina “Cricket” (Bailey) Birchfield; his two sons: Aaron (Kayla) Birchfield of Bullcreek, and Tanner Birchfield of the home; four brothers: Sonny (Kathy) Birchfield, Joe (Nina) Birchfield, Jason (Rose Mary) Birchfield all of Bullcreek; and Armour (Mable) Birchfield of Litwar; two sisters: Glenda (Eugene) Profit of China Grove, NC, and Judy (Rufus) Justice of Bullcreek; and one granddaughter: Ava Jade Birchfield.
Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 after 6PM at the Mt. Zion Old Regular Baptist Church at Bullcreek for Visitation, with special services to begin at 7PM. Funeral Services will commence at the church on Wednesday June 3, 2026 at 1PM with Elder Fred Bailey, Elder David Lester, and Elder Danny Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Birchfield Family Cemetery at Bullcreek, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Donald’s love and gentle heart will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
