Edward Ray Ellis Sr., 72, of Justice, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 17, 2020 from his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was Born July 9, 1948 at Justice, WV. He was the son of the late Humphrey and Reba (Vance) Ellis.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Randy and Ron Ellis.
Sergeant Edward Ray Ellis was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, serving there from 1968-1969. He was the recipient of a National Defense Service Medal, a 2 Star Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with ‘60 Device, a Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and “V” Device, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organizations. Ray was a retired Coal Mine Electrician, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). He was a proud father to his 3 sons and a loving husband to his wife of 51 years.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are his loving wife, of 51 years, Delennia (Justice) Ellis; his sons: Edward Ray Jr. (Tina) Ellis, Ronald Lee (Tiffany) Ellis, and Ricky Ellis; his sister: Margret Davis; grandchildren: Kalenia (Bryan) Sizemore, Matt (Madison) Ellis, Payton Ellis, Kylie Ellis, Caleb Ellis; and great grandchildren: Archer Sizemore, Korraline Ellis, Jaelie, and Ryker.
Friends may gather with the Ellis family Tuesday, July 21, 2020 from 6pm – 9pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel for visitation. Funeral services will commence Wednesday July 22, 2020 at 2pm with the Rev. Dennis Lester and Cecil Johnson officiating. Following the funeral service, military rites will be provided by the D.A.V. post #141 Belfry, KY.
Burial will follow at the Nathan Justice Cemetery, Justice, WV. Edward will be carried to his final resting place by: Matt Ellis, Payton Ellis, Caleb Ellis, Brad Justice, Matt Tolley, Bryan Sizemore, Barrett Justice, and Brent Justice. Honorary Pallbearers are: Donnie Stepp, David Vest, Tim Toler, Donald Kenneda Jr., Kevin Lester, Charles Justice, Wayne Addair, and Roger Toler.
