Elva Ritchie Thompson, 88, of Baisden went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 2, 2023 from her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born March 2, 1935 at Isaban, WV, she was the daughter of the late Estel and Alcie (Cline) Ritchie.
Elva was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 65 years, Emerson Thompson, whom she is rejoicing with today. She is also preceded in death by one daughter: Drucilla Thompson Lester; one granddaughter: Courtney Cambria Porter Smith; three great grandsons: James Birch Thompson, Zion Thompson, and Thomas Thompson; three brothers: Virgil, Hershel, and Steve Ritchie; and five sisters: Causby Blankenship, Shelva Cline, Dessie Mae Cline, Lennie Long, and Lilly Mae Ritchie.
Elva was a talented cook and greeted everyone with a smile. She served thousands of meals in Gilbert schools over the years. She loved her high school kids and loved cooking for them, she always made sure everyone had something to eat. When she was able, she enjoyed spending time at Indian Meadows and visiting the ocean with her family. Elva loved her grand babies and her great grand babies dearly. She took every opportunity to go to their activities and events and loved the fun times with her family. Elva was a 51-year member of the Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church. She loved her Church, she loved going, loved her church family, and especially loved her Lord and Savior.
Those left to love and cherish her memory and mourn her passing are one son: Aaron (Missy) Thompson of Culloden, WV; one daughter: Carmella (Frank) Porter of Baisden; five grandchildren: Jeremy (Vonya) May of Baisden, Ethan May of Princeton, Trevor (Savannah) Porter of Ashland KY, Josh (Megan) Thompson of Kansas, and Sarah Thompson also of Kansas; seven great grandchildren: Zack Patrick, Shantessa (Kenny) Adkins of Chapmanville, Andrew (Destiny Endicott) May of Princeton, Joseph Samuel Porter, Aria Emersyn Smith, Charlotte True Thompson, and Penelope Jane Thompson; and one great great grandchild: Kenna Faye Adkins; a special nephew: Drexel Cline; along with many nieces and nephews; and a special work friend: Aretta Davis.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church at Baisden from 6PM – 9PM for visitation with special services to begin at 7PM. Funeral services will commence Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11 AM with Elder Hobert Hamilton, Elder Richard Staton, Elder Gary Young, Elder Freddy Cline, Elder Jerry Thompson, and Elder Stoney Blackburn officiating. Joshua Thompson will provide a eulogy before the commencement of services. Burial will follow at the Cline – Ritchie Family Cemetery at Baisden.
Elva will be carried to her resting place by pallbearers: Trevor Porter, Jeremy May, Ethan May, Andy May, Zach Patrick, Aaron Thompson, Jordan Cline, and Brian Cline; and honorary pallbearers: Frank Porter, Brian White, Drexel Cline, Jackie Thompson, Jerry Thompson, Tim Thompson, and Brothers of the Church.
