Emogene Lester, 91 of Baisden, WV went home to be with the Lord and Savior on January 9, 2026. She was born on March 18, 1934, in Hanover, WV, to her parents Lacy and Zetta (Lester) Bishop and step- mother Marie Bishop. She passed peacefully with her family by her side.
She worked for 18 years for Mingo County BOE as an Aide. She was a member of the Ikes Fork Freewill Baptist Church for 65 years.
She was the perfect mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife. She loved witnessing for the Lord and reading her bible. Going to church and singing with her husband in church. She was preceded in death by her husband Jason Lester of 64 years who was the love of her life. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by brothers: Oley Bishop, Lacey Bishop Jr., Edward Bishop, Roy Ronald Bishop, Okey Dean Bishop; one stepbrother: Alex (Pedro) Cline; four sisters: Nana Mae Stewart, Lacine Lester, Georgia Belcher, Kathy Baise; one stepsister: Margaret Lester whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her four loving children: Elizabeth (Tennis Zeke) Hatfield of Baisden, WV, Randall (Missie) Lester of Justice, WV, Denny (Linda) Lester of Gilbert, WV, Kenneth (Didena) Lester of Justice, WV, and her fur baby Pebbles whom she loved dearly; two sisters: Judy Mullins of Gilbert Creek, WV, Kathryn Bowles of Williamsburg, VA, grandsons: Caleb (Courtney) Lester, Jonathan (Kayla) Lester, Adam Hatfield; great-granddaughters: Katie Jae (Caleb) Jaslyn Paige (Caleb); step great-grandson: Ashton Waldron (Caleb); step grandsons: Larry (Savannah) Champagne, Christopher (Casandra) Champagne; step great-grandsons: Braden “Lil Joe" Champagne, Connar Champagne, Laurence Champagne. Emogene also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Hospice of Chapmanville, Carolyn (Pring), Tyler, Jacklyn and Pam Harvey for their help during her sickness. We also want to thank Didena Lester, her daughter-in-law, who she called her favorite nurse for all she has done for our beloved mother.
Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel. Special service starting at 7:00 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Jacky Jesse officiating. Funeral services will commence on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Preacher Homer Blankenship Jr. and James Cline officiating. Emogene will be carried to her final resting place by pallbearers: Jonathan Lester, Steve Lester, Brian Lester, Nick Bishop, Kevin Cline, Brayden Champagne, Chris Champagne, Caleb Lester, Adam Hatfield, Wes Lester, Brandon Cline, Preston Bishop; honorary pallbearers: Trampas Browning, Snookie Cline, Joey Morgan, Bear Browning, Larry Cline, Rueban Mitchell. Burial will follow in the Jason Lester Family Cemetery at Baisden, WV.
