It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eugene Ellis, 64, of Bruno, WV on Tuesday, April 2, 2025. He bravely battled lung cancer for over 2 years.
He was born on August 22, 1960, at Man Appalachian Regional Hospital. Eugene was the son of the late Kadger and Edna Mae (Walls) Ellis.
Eugene grew up on Bruno where he played and ran around with friends Jim Grimmett, Timmy Joe Williamson and Dallas Grimmett. He graduated from Man High School in 1979.
He attended Sandlick Freewill Baptist Church at Bruno. In his early years, Eugene had a passion for carpenter work. He owned his own business, Ellis Construction, where he built many houses in the area including his own house. In his later years, he was a heavy equipment operator working for T.H.A.W Construction and then, Ace Trucking before retirement.
Eugene especially enjoyed working with Brandon when he joined the Logan County Robotics Team 337. He loved helping the team build robots and attending the robotics competition to cheer Brandon on. He loved the robotics competition so much that after Brandon graduated from high school that he continued for many more years working with the Robotics Team.
He had three special lifelong friends; Bernard Blankenship, Nathan Harvey, and Timmy Justice that he shared many life adventures with over the years. They have stood by each other through weddings, births of children, and the passing of parents along with many camping, beach trips, and many other adventures. He also had special work friendships that he cherished. Mike (Shakey) Aldridge, Billy Jack Dickerson, and Steve Kennedy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Katharine Ann (Woods) Ellis; his son, Brandon Ryan Ellis of South Man; his brother, Rev. James (Diane)Ellis of Braxton County, his sister, Joann (Henry) Zigan of Ohio; his sister, Drema Kay (Michael) Nelson of Bruno; his mother-in-law, Beverly (late Robert D.) Woods of Davin; brother-in-law, Robert D. (Robin) Woods Jr. of Virginia Beach; sister-in-law: Donna (Timmy) Clark of Amherstdale; his loving nephews and nieces: Steve (Julie) Zigan; Christopher (Amy) Zigan; Allen (Nunnie) Ellis; the late Jeremy (KC) Ellis; Anthony (Ashley) Nelson, Jim Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Lora Jo (Woods) McPherson, April Woods, and Kayla Clark; his great nephews and nieces: Zach Zigan, Christopher and Isabella Zigan, Jaxxon, Brenna, and Morgan Ellis, Amelia, Abigail, and Audrey Nelson, Jim Jr., Daygon, and Ian Nelson, Ashley Roberts, Callie Woods, and Shelby McPherson. He also had a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends who loved him, and he loved them.
Eugene will be carried to his resting place by Bernard Blankenship, Nathan Harvey, Timmy Justice, Timmy Joe Williamson, Jim Grimmett, Mike Aldridge, Billy Jack Dickerson, and Steve Kennedy. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nephews.
Friends may gather with the family Sunday, April 6, 2025, after 6:00 pm at the Sandlick Freewill Baptist Church, Bruno, WV and one hour prior to the funeral services which will commence on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 12:00 pm with Pastor Bill Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Pecks Mill, WV.
We will forever hold Eugene in our hearts, cherishing the memories and the love he gave us.
