Eva Marie Clay left this life for Glory on February 17, 2020 following an extended battle with pulmonary lung fibrosis and myelodysplastic syndrome. She was born in Helen, WV in 1933 to the late Woodrow and Ethel Aliff. She grew up in the coal camps of southern West Virginia along with her older brothers, Waldo and Lloyd.
She married Edward Clay, now deceased, in June 1950. They settled in Gilbert, WV where they raised a family while owning and managing Clay Brothers Supermarket. Marie was a kind, gentle, Christian lady who was loved by all. She was devoted to the First Missionary Baptist Church of Gilbert and active in the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her five children: Katherine Clay-Jones of Thomasville, NC; Teresa Boswell (John) of Cumming, GA; Denise Clay MD, of Wytheville, VA; Vincent Clay (Jennifer) of Gilbert, WV; and Heath Clay (Odessa) of Summerfield, NC.
Marie, otherwise known as Nana, leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Ashley Baker, Zachary Boswell, Catlin Boswell, Eric Jones, Christy Cline, Millicent Clay, Mariah Clay, Tori Clay, Riker Clay, Colton Clay, Trinity Clay, and Dakota Clay.
She was very proud of her 10 great grandchildren as well: Addy Marie Baker, Julian Baker, Isabella Cline, Olivia Cline, Mackenzie Cline, Kelsa Boswell, Tobias Boswell, Ruby Boswell, Lucas Jones, and Leo Jones.
Mrs. Clay had two half-brothers (Wayne Kescle Aliff and James Aliff) and four half-sisters (Gretna Adkins, Anita Williams, Venetta Broyles, and Debbie Meadows) along with numerous and well-loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Friends may gather with the family Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Gilbert, WV.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the funeral services on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 1 pm at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Gilbert, WV with Rev. Ronnie Lester officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Pecks Mill, Logan, WV.
Her wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
