Gary Lee Butcher, 75 of Man, WV went home to be with the Lord early Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from his residence.
Born on December 3, 1946 in Logan County, he was the son of the late Bryan and Nancy (Maynard) Butcher.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his daughter: Terri Leigh Baker; grandson: Nicholas Baker; sisters: Karen Frazier, Geneva Rice, Mae Stollings, and Connie Butcher; brothers: Bernard, Kennerth, Larry (his twin), Jerry, Jack, and John Butcher; and his special dog: Duke.
Gary was an Army Veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was active with the Little League Program in Logan in the 1980’s, and was a long-time member of the UMWA. He enjoyed donating to charities, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and trying new recipes with his family. In his spare time, he would watch religious programs, fox news, and play on his I-pad. In the summers, he would leisurely sit around the pool watching the kids play, counting down the days until fall so he could watch Marshall and WVU Football. But what brought Gary the most joy and what he loved most was spending time with and watching his grandchildren play. He was also very strong in his faith, reading his Bible, and it made his heart full to introduce each grandchild to their very own 1st Bible.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are his loving wife of 34 years: Carol (Mounts) Butcher of Man; daughters: Cayla Butcher of Man, Cara (J.R. Thompson) of Davin; sons: Mark (Staci) Butcher, and Martin Butcher, all of Fairmont; grandchildren: Colton, Cayliana, Trey, Thomas, Haleigh (Kyle), Tyler (Montana), Austin (Samantha) and Kylee Butcher, Zoey Basadre of Fairmont; great-grandchildren: Elijah, Charlie, Bentley, Everly, Bailea; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Butcher of Dallas, TX and Deborah Scarberry of Huff Creek; Linda Wiley of Verner; brothers-in-law: Lowell “Hoppy” (late Linda) Mounts of Gilbert, Jerry (Marcella) Mounts of Tennessee. Gary also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear relatives and friends.
Friends may gather with the family on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 1:00 till 2:00 pm at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel where funeral services will commence at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bill Cantrell and Rev. Beverly Baker officiating.
To honor his wishes, his remains will be cremated following services, and later laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Edwards, Amy, and Cindy of the Beckley V.A, to Kindred Health of Chapmanville, Shelly Fizer of Logan Wound Care, and Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville.
Gary may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
