Gavin Joe Smith 64, of Gilbert, WV departed this life Monday, June 7, 2021, from Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born on June 7, 1957, at Welch, WV he was the son of the late Joe Randall and Flossie (Hatfield) Smith.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son: William David Sparks.
Gavin was a business owner/operator, mechanic, and Mingo County Commissioner, a friend to all who met him, always doing what he could to help people in their time of need, there are so many people that could tell how he made a difference in their lives and the love and generosity that he showed will forever be remembered. He was of the Methodist Faith and a graduate of Gilbert High School.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are his wife: Audrey Gay (Gillman) Smith; Daughters: Stacy (Jarrod) Hatfield of Charleston, W.V, and Jessica (Robert) Sheppard of Milford, KS; grandchildren: Hayden and Emma Hatfield of Charleston, W.V and Ayden Vanatter of Dandridge, TN, Mason O’Ryan Vanatter and Zoey and Winter Sheppard all of Milford, KS, Mindi Rayne Sparks of Gilbert, W.V; his business partner that was like a son to him: John (Shannon) Stone; his sister: Gretchen (Mark) Ryll of Greenville, S.C; his mother-in-law, who loved him dearly: Dorene Gillman; nephews: Paul and Tyler Ryll of Greenville, S.C. Gavin also leaves behind a host of other dear family, acquaintances and many friends that will always remember the legacy that he left behind.
Friends may gather with the family Saturday, June 12, 2021, from 1:00 till 8:00 pm at the Mingo Central High School where a Celebration of Life will commence at 2:00 pm with Rev. Arville Cline officiating.
Gavin will be carried to his final resting place by pallbearers: Jared Hatfield, John Stone, Jarrod Cline, Ritz Carter, Hayden Hatfield. Ayden Vanatter, Ranse Cline, Keith Carter, Erick Cline, Jamie Reyes, Jared McCoy, Joe Smoot, Jacob Stone, Justin Stone, Dwayne Gibson, and Dustin Lester. Honorary pallbearers are: Mark Lovejoy, Thomas Taylor, Eddie Chapman, Vaughn Queen, Tommy Fortner, Tyler Ryll, Danny Hatfield, Tim Whitley, and Johnny Adams.
Gavin loved his family and friends, and he was loved and respected in return by so many.
His wonderful smile, gentle heart, kindness, and generosity will be remembered by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
