Glema Jean (Mullins) Meade, 93, of Gilbert departed this life Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from her residence.
Born on January 24, 1927 in Clintwood, VA, she was the daughter of the late Fitzhugh and Maxie (Selfe) Mullins.
In addition to her parents Glema is also preceded in death by her husband: Clayton Meade; son: Kenneth Meade: sister: Ivis Tidwell.
Glema started her career with a move to Red Jacket, WV, working for a company store. She soon met the love of her life, Clayton, they were married for 71 years. In 1961 they moved to Gilbert, and opened Meade Chevrolet Sales. Glema opened Ken Lou’s Clothing in 1968, naming her business after her two children. She retired from both businesses in the late nineties. Glema was active and supportive of the Pentecostal Church of Newtown and the Justice Church of God.
Those left to love and cherish her memory and to mourn her loss are her daughter: Lou Ann (Howard) Morris of Pearisburg, VA; daughter-in-law: Elizabeth Meade of Justice; sisters: Jacqueline (Bruce) Hall of Sax, VA, Joyce Puckett of Clintwood, VA and Margaret Bailey of Gilbert, who took care of Glema; adopted son: Leonard (Dorisue) Cresong of Bassett, VA; grandchildren: Amelia (Michael) Elander of Richmond, VA, Angela (Troy) Lockhart of North Spring, Kerrie (Terrence) Hurley of Pearisburg, VA, Kayla (Hassel) Lester of Baisden, Matthew Meade of Gilbert, Kelly Walls of Australia; 9 great grandchildren: Haylea, Logan and Paige Lockhart, Bryson Cook, Gavin Hurley, Ashton Elander, Addison Lester, Maddie and Sophia Meade; special family and friends: Gary Ellis, Bill and Shirley Cresong, Janet Cline, Nora Cline, Jim and Marsha Halstead, Dorothy and Sharon Cline; her beloved four legged best friend: Duke. Glema also leaves behind many other relatives and dear friends.
Friends may gather with the family Friday, August 7, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel where funeral services will commence at 1:00 pm with Rev. Bill Cresong and Rev. Randy Casey officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Logan, WV.
Glema will be carried to her resting place by pallbearers: Michael and Ashton Elander, Troy Lockhart, Terrence Hurley, Matthew Meade, Rick Cresong. Honorary pallbearers: Mark Kirk, Hassel Lester, Butch Daugherty, Dan Morris.
Special thanks to Margaret Bailey, for being there to take care of Glema for the last 2 years. Elizabeth Meade for the loving care and comfort, Winnie Dingess, Darlene and Richard Stanley, late Patricia Hatfield Kennedy, and Dignity Hospice for all the care and support they all gave.
Glema and Clayton would quote the scriptures that says “ I’ll Be with you always even unto the end of the world” and “He maketh a way even when there seems to be no way” and they lived by this.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the local food bank “The Storehouse” operated by Rev. Clifford Rawls.
Her wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved her.
