Hurschel "Jr." Picklesimer

Hurschel Picklesimer, Jr., age 87, of Gilbert, WV, departed this earthly world on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Raleigh General Hospital following an extended illness. A beloved son, brother and uncle, Jr. was born on April 19, 1939, at his parents' home in WV and was the eldest of his siblings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hurschel and June Picklesimer, and brother, Roger Picklesimer.

Those left to cherish fond memories of Jr. include sisters: Carol Honaker of Daniels, WV, and Dreama McGinnis of Beckley, WV, as well as his brother: Gary Picklesimer and wife, Rosemary, of Canal Winchester, OH, and sister-in-law: Joan Picklesimer, of Cambridge, OH. Jr. also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Jr. graduated from Gilbert High School in 1958 and had a long career working for Wards Hardware in Gilbert until his retirement. He served his country for 2 years in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, serving as a Medic during his time in the military before being honorably discharged. In his free time, Jr. loved playing a good game of golf with his brothers, working on electronics and was a skilled woodworker, making several unique furniture pieces he gifted to family. Jr. was well known and liked around his hometown of Gilbert, WV, and will be greatly missed.

Services for Jr. will be held at Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert, WV, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, with the viewing from 11 AM – 12 PM for friends and family, after which a grave side service will be held at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, WV.
