James Bartram

James Lee Bartram, 79 of Gilbert, WV departed this life on Friday, November 9, 2018 from CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Born October 15, 1939 at Aflex, KY, he was the son of the late Thurman and Pauline (Stollings) Bartram.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law: Connie & Verna Mitchell; two sons-in-law: Jimmy Cohenour & Zachary Bailey.

James graduated from Gilbert High School in 1957.  He gave his life to the Lord on January 17, 1971.  He was a member of the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church for 24 years and a Trustee for 4 years.  James also served as a deacon for 23 years at Sprattsville Baptist Church.  He was instrumental in the building of Reach Out Community Church.  He was an active volunteer at the Store House foodbank.

James was owner and operator of Bartram’s Hardware in Gilbert, WV where he retired after 28 years of serving the community.  After retirement in December 2005, James spent his free time working with family, churches and helping others.   

He loved spending time with his family and friends.  He enjoyed carpentry, gardening and camping.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of James and to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 60 years Patricia Sue (Mitchell) Bartram whom he married on July 20, 1958; his children: James Paul (Debbie Shannon) Bartram of Hampden, Beverly Cheryl Bailey of Gilbert, Sherry Laverne (Sammy) Walker of Justice, Allison Tenielle Cline of Gilbert; his brother: Jackie Charles Bartram of Lakeland, Fl; sister: Anita Sue Bartram of Gilbert; grandchildren: Stacy Jo Stimson, Anthony Bartram, Joshua Bailey, Wynne Walker, Jonathan Walker, Sara Walker and Emily Cline; great grandchildren: Dillon Stimson, Taya Bailey, Jayden Bailey, Carissa Jo Stimson, Ledger Bailey; a special friend: Douglas Clinton Cline; many nieces and nephews and a host of other dear family and friends whom he cherished.

Friends may gather with family on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church from 6-9 pm.  Funeral services will commence on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the church with the Rev. Jackie Lester, Rev. Danny Mitchell and Pastor Clifford Rawls officiating.

Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Gilbert, WV.

James will be carried to his final resting place by: Clark Perry, Doug Cline, Joshua Stacy, Mark Thompson, Josh Bailey, Dillon Stimson, Tracy Cline, Jon Walker, Wynne Walker, Travis Bowman and Anthony Bartram.  Honorary pallbearers include: Mike Mounts, Mackie Cline, Clarence Ellis, Jackie Thompson, Mack Profit, Darrick Stacy, Clyde Endicott, Don Walker and Sammy Walker.

His beautiful smile and tender heart will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
