James "Jimmy" Hale Johnston, Sr.

James "Jimmy" Hale Johnston Sr, 71 of Man (Greenvalley), WV, formerly a lifelong resident of Bruno, WV.  He Joined his loved ones in his Heavenly home on Sunday, June 28th, 2026, from CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, WV surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on Thursday, July 8th, 1954, at Guyan Valley Hospital in Logan, WV. He was the Son of the late David Rufus and Freida Mae (Foust) Johnston.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter: Tonya Lea Keene; one brother: Pletz Oscar Johnston; one sister: Charlotte Cora Johnston Hatfield.

He was a retired Coal Miner of which he spent over 40 years in service. He was also a father, brother, uncle, papaw, and great papaw. James was of the Christian Faith and his greatest calling in life was sharing the word of Jesus Christ. He never met a stranger and would gladly preach the Gospel to anyone willing to listen, whether they were family, friends, or someone he had just met.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time reading his Bible, spending time with his family, playing and singing tunes on his organ, and working on cars.

Those left to love and cherish his memories are his Fiancé: Sandra Lynn (Maynard) Western of the home; one son: James "Jamie" Hale Johnston Jr of Man; one daughter: Cary (Kevin) Allen of Christian. one step-daughter: Joleene Western of the home; two step-sons: Matthew Western of Mandeville, Louisianna, Billy Western of the home; six grandchildren, Including one that he raised as his own: Cody (Savannah) Allen of Beckley, Zachary May of Charleston, Micah Denham of Lorado,  Caleb Allen of Christian, Bryce Allen of Elk Creek, and Jacob Allen of Myrtle Beach, SC; six great-grandchildren: Brailynn, Kennedy, Liam, and Penelope Allen of Beckley; Mason May of Charleston; Paityn Allen of Elk Creek; two sisters: Anna (Mitchell) Stanley, and Violet (Donald) Campbell both of Rutherfordton, NC; two brothers: David "Jr" Rufus Johnston, Jr of Elk Creek, Roy (Lois) Johnston of Rutherfordton, NC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Friends may gather with the family, Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, WV, where funeral services will commence at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Harvey officiating.  Burial will follow in the Johnston Family Cemetery at Bruno, WV.

Jimmy will be carried to his resting place by his family and friends.  Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
