Jimmie Andrew New, 74 of the Browning Fork section of Gilbert, departed this life on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born on February 9, 1948 at Snake Run in Greenbrier County, he was the son of the late Joe “Pat” New and Rose (Cohenour) New Proffitt.
In addition to his parents, Jimmie is also preceded in death by his bonus dad: Pastor Firg Proffitt; his in-laws: Oley and Ella Christian; sisters-in-law: Elaine New and Nancy Hall; brothers-in-law: Robert “Bob” Christian, Donald Christian, and Joe Hall; several nieces and nephews.
Jimmie had served the Lord for 30 years. He was a member of the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer, where he served as Deacon for 25 years. Jimmie enjoyed helping with Sunday School, Youth, and the Community Construction Projects, he loved working for the Lord. He had worked as a Coal Miner for about 30 years, as a Mine Foreman and Section Boss. He loved watching westerns and sports programs, as well as playing/dancing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he enjoyed attending their sporting events.
Those left to love and cherish his memory and to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 55 years: Shirley (Christian) New of the home; daughter: Sherry (John) Gross; sons: Jimmy “Bud” (Alicia) New, all of Browning Fork, and Joey (Michelle) New of Gilbert; grandchildren: Anthony New, Brianna (Josh) Blankenship, Braylon New, Nick Layne, Shiloh (Chris) Smith; great-grandchildren: Jazmyn, Makilah and Jaelyn New, Brennan Blankenship; brothers: Joe (Deanna) New, Bobby (Nancy) New, Troy (Ruth) New, Teddy New; sisters: Lillie (Walter Glen) Hatfield and Charlene Hankins; bonus siblings: Diana Morgan, Pauline Kennedy, Lawanna Preece, Patty Morgan, Ricky Proffitt; in-laws: Dorothy (Clark) Harris, Mildred (Mick) Thomas, Debbie (Marshall) Hatfield; very special nephews: Robbie, Bobbie, and Rodney Christian; very special niece: Julie Collins. Jimmie also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends, relatives, and church family.
Friends may gather with the family Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 1:00 till 2:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel where funeral services will commence at 2:00 pm with Pastor Carl “Cab” Wolford and Rev. Clifford Rawls officiating. Burial will follow in the Christian Family Cemetery at Browning Fork.
Jimmie will be carried to his resting place by pallbearers: Josh Blankenship, Jamie Hatfield, Steve New, Jamey New, Jordan Collins, Landon Grimmett, Clark Blackburn, Packy Cline. Honorary pallbearers are: Anthony New, Braylon New, Brennan Blankenship, Timmy Cline, D.J Endicott, Dennis Collins, Marshall Hatfield, Dakota Endicott, Johnnie Blankenship.
