Johnny Lee Dotson, 59 of Wharncliffe, departed this life Sunday, December 17, 2023 from his residence.
Born on April 15, 1964 in Williamson, WV he was the son of Mary Jane (Cohenour) Dotson and the late Earl Edman Dotson.
In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Viola and Grover Cohenour; paternal grandparents: Wade and Elizabeth “Dixie” Dotson; uncles: Eugene and Clifton Dotson, and Charles and Mark Cohenour; aunt: Karen Goad; father and mother-in-law: Teddy and Sandra Toler; nephew: Stevie Joe Browning; his special friend: Marion Butcher; and his special fur baby: “Tink”.
Johnny retired from the Army after 31 years of active service to his nation with the rank of Sergeant Major. He was extremely proud of his many military achievements over the years, and was the recipient of numerous medals and decorations during his years of service. After his retirement from the military, Johnny was able spend more time enjoying his favorite activities: fishing and ginsenging. He was a fantastic family man with a very generous heart. He loved his family dearly, but the apples of his eye were his grandkids. He loved spending time with them, and was the best grandpa they could have asked for. Johnny was of the Pentecostal Faith, and enjoyed attending church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 33 years: Margaret “Marty” (Toler) Dotson; son: Johnathon “Bub” (Madison) Dotson; daughter: Johnna (Donovan) Mounts; his mother: Mary Jane (Cohenour) Dotson; six grandchildren: Jaylyn and Ryder Mounts, Josie, Paxton, and Landon Dotson, and Jordan Ferguson; two brothers: Earl Jr. (Carmella) Dotson and Anthony (Tammy) Dotson; two sisters: Tara (Jimmy) Wells and Kimberly (Rodney) Blankenship; two brothers-in-law: Shane (Jennifer) Toler and Eric (Christy) Toler; sister-in-law: Vickie (Steve) Browning; and his special friend: Bradley Butcher.
Friends may gather with the family Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 6-9 PM at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel for visitation.
