God gave sunrise to him October 19, 1973 and his sun set on Monday, February 20, 2023 as he entered the Kingdom of God peacefully at his home.
Born in Man, WV, he lived among us as only Josh could, a loving father, devoted son, a loyal brother, and a faithful friend. Josh was multi-talented, working as a truck driver, coal miner, logger, and a carpenter.
He so loved the serenity of his mountains and was known for his passion of speeding four wheelers, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and sports cars. He knew no fear.
Josh was a truly larger than life personality. He embodied the heart of the lion and the lamb, the warrior, and the servant, and was known for his unique ability to make others laugh.
Those fortunate enough to be loved by him, always knew full well the magnitude of the blessing it was to walk with him.
He was a beautiful man and a miracle given from God, whose impact will forever be felt by his family who loved him dearly. His passing leaves an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones, but we always knew that a light so bright could only burn so long.
Blessed to have known, be loved by, and to have loved him, Josh leaves behind parents: Dwight and Dimple (Hilbert) Layne; daughter: Emily Layne (Dusty Maggard); son and namesake: Drayton Matthew Layne; sisters: Tina Layne (and “Darlin” niece Madison Layne), Julie Layne, Shiloh (Layne) Smith (Chris Smith); brother: Nick Layne (Tamara Orcutt, Steven, and Savannah); granddaughter: Maizie Maggard; step grandchildren: Xavier, Nevaeh, and Haylee.
He will forever be the brightest of them all.
