Kathryn (Glanden) Vinson

Kathryn Vinson, 75 of Hanover, WV took her Heavenly flight home on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from her residence.

Kathryn was born on February 26, 1947 at Baisden, WV to the late Oliver and Corrina (Bailey) Glanden.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was also preceded in death by two sisters: Lynda Sue Hatfield and Muriel Ellis; one brother: Terry Glanden; one grandson: Logan Vinson.

Kathryn was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She was of the Baptist Faith.

Kathryn attended Gilbert High School.  Kathryn completed her Bachelor of Arts in Education at Marshall University in 1995.  She furthered her education and obtained a Master in Reading from Marshall in 2007.  She retired from McDowell County Board of Education in August of 2021.  It was after she had raised her own children that she discovered her true passion of teaching.  She loved seeing children strive and achieve their goals and master new skills.  Kathryn loved to teach children to write whether it was their own stories or preplanned lessons.  She longed for children to learn to express themselves in creative ways.  She truly believed that no child should be left behind in the educational system.

Those left to love and cherish her memory and to mourn her passing include her husband of 58 years: Douglas Vinson; son: Terry (Sheila) Vinson of Radiant, VA; daughter; Lisa Vinson of Hanover, WV; grandsons: Christopher, Collin, James, Kyle, and Preston Vinson; sisters: Lana (Daniel) Buchannon and Brenda Salmons.  She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and a host of other dear relatives and friends.

Friends may gather with the family Monday, June 20, 2022 from 12:00 till 1:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, where funeral services will commence at 1:00 pm.  Burial will follow in the Justice Memorial Garden cemetery at Justice, WV.

Kathryn will be carried to her resting place by her family and friends.

Her wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved her.
