Lake M. (Lee) Hopson, a beloved resident of Gilbert, WV transitioned to glory on July 10, 2023, surrounded by love. She was born on April 29, 1916, at Twin Branch, in McDowell County, WV to the late Robert Lee and Goldie Augusta Morgan. Lake grew up in McDowell County and throughout her 77-year relationship with the Lord she was always dedicated to a local church.

Lake graduated from Welch High School in 1934 and continued her education at Concord College. In 1937 she accepted her first teaching position in McDowell County, WV. Through the years Lake would continue her education at Concord College, Marshall College (University) and West Virginia University. By 1970 she had earned an A.B. (Elementary – all subjects), B.S. (Secondary Education – English and Social Studies 7-12) and a M.A. plus 15. Lake retired on July 1, 1971, with 32 years of service in schools located in McDowell and Mingo counties. She would go on to work in Substitute positions until the Nineties.

In addition to her parents Lake was proceeded in death by her first husband, James Homer Lee and her second husband, McKinley Hopson; Siblings: Howard Fred Holbrook, Roby Lee (Holbrook) Morgan, Mary “Ellen” (Holbrook) Dewitt, Robert Lee Morgan, Ruby Morgan, and Merle Hampton Morgan. Honorary Grandson, Erick Shawn Cline, and others that she loved dearly.

Lake is survived by her son, James Howard Lee, who was adored by her from first sight. Grandchildren: Leety Dawn (Glenn) Beverly and Robert Howard Lee. Great-Granddaughter, Morgan Liberty (Dalton) Lester and Great-Great Granddaughter, Alaska Lakelynn Lester. Honorary Great-Grandson, Ranse (Amanda) Cline; Nephew, Oliver (Barbra) Dewitt; Fur baby, Lily Rose, and many others who held a special place in her heart.

The family wishes to recognize two ladies, Barbra Rambo, and Greta Cline, for their love and care of Lake during the last several months. She often referred to them as “her girls” and always looked forward to the time she spent with them.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert, WV. Friends and Family may gather from 12pm-2pm for Fellowship with the Celebration commencing at 2pm; burial will follow at the Cline Cemetery, Gilbert, WV.

Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers.

A dinner in honor of Lake will be held at Eagle Sanctuary, Christian, WV at 4pm.
