Linda Ward Obituary

On December 29, 2021, Linda L. (Evans) Ward of Gilbert, West Virginia departed this life from her earthly home and opened her eyes to her Lord, Jesus Christ. In Heaven, she is reunited with her high school sweetheart and husband of 46 years, David Ward Sr.

She was born January 27, 1949, in Welch, West Virginia. Her heavenly reunion also includes her parents, James, and Anna Ruth (McNew) Evans, her parents-in-law, Cassie and Virginia Ward, her brothers, Jerry (Sue) Evans and Paul Ward, her son-in law Ronnie Mounts, two nephews, Ronnie Staten and Devan Evans, and a host of other loved ones.

Linda fought a long battle with heart disease and diabetes that ended peacefully as she fell asleep here and awoke with Jesus. She left Man High School as a junior to marry and start a family. She later continued her education and retired from Logan County Board of Education as a schoolteacher in 2019. She very much enjoyed being a full time Gran. Her life was devoted to Jesus, her husband, her children, and grandchildren. She was the epitome of a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Linda is survived by her three children-- April (Dwayne) Trent, David (Brittney) Ward, Jr., and Angela (David) Sparks. Thirteen grandchildren – Justin Sparks, Ryan Davis, Cheyenne (Brandon) Loring, David (Krystle) Ward III, Devon (Whitney) Poe, Gracie Sparks, Brooke Sparks, EmyLeigh Mitchell-Ward, Casey Sparks, PaisLeigh Ward, Jaxon Ward, Sean Sparks, and Willow Sparks and seven great-grandchildren – Lincoln Gartin, Kayden Loring, Colton Griffith, Nora Ward, Lily Ward, DeLaney Loring, and Adalyn Poe and an honorary granddaughter Morgan (Dalton) Lester. Linda is also survived by siblings: James (Marlene) Evans Jr, Michael (Tonia) Ward, and Eula Ward. Nieces: Michelle (Christopher) Short, Tabatha Evans, Mandy Evans, and Teria (Matthew) Hopkins; Nephews: Jamie Ward and Michael (Tabitha) Ward; best friend, Phyllis Smith, “honorary daughter” Leety (Glenn) Beverly, son-in-law William “Joe” Poe, her pastors Anthony and Denise Hudgins, her Eagle Sanctuary family, and a host of other loved ones.

Friends may gather with the family at Eagle Sanctuary in Christian, West Virginia on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 12:00 pm with funeral services beginning at 2:00pm. Service will be led by Bishop Anthony Hudgins and Brother Parish Harvey.

Linda will be carried to her final resting place, beside her husband, at Hollywood Cemetery in Gilbert, WV, by her grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers: David Sparks, Dwayne Trent, James Evans Jr., Michael Ward, Howard Lee, William “Joe” Poe, Glenn Beverly, Charles Belcher Jr., Parish Harvey, Mikee Ward, Jamie Ward, and Mark Endicott. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:31 Mounts Funeral Home, Gilbert, WV is in charge of arrangements.
