Luster Bryant Obituary

On February 8th, 2022 Luster Bryant went to Heaven. Born August 23rd, 1925 in Alderson, WV he was the son of the late Jacob and Bessie Bryant.

Luster was a true family man who was married to the love his life, Grace Bryant, for 50 years and was a retired coal miner and faithful follower of Jesus. He was exceptionally proud of all of his family members and loved to visit and laugh at their many adventures and stories. He loved to garden and a had gift for making fruit, vegetables, and plants grow. He would often share his gardening wisdom with those around him and harvested the best produce that could be found on Browning Fork. He loved to admire nature and watch games and westerns on television. Luster was a father, grandfather, brother, and many other things, but was affectionately and universally known as “Paw” to most people. He hosted famous holiday celebrations where dinner was served at 10 AM and all were welcome to come and get a plate. If you were fortunate enough to have ate his beans and cornbread or his “tater gravy” you were blessed to have been able to eat from one of the best cooks in West Virginia. His recipes have been imitated by many, but according to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nothing compares to Paw’s original dinner plates.

Luster was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of Browning Fork House of Faith. Every day he would listen to his favorite southern gospel songs. He is now in the presence of his savior and reunited with his beloved wife, Grace. In his later years he was cared for by his granddaughter Angie Clark and proudly told everyone, “this is my granddaughter, she takes care of me.” The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Soma and the staff of Tug Valley ARH for their excellent care.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers Lacy Bryant, Plummer Bryant, and Albert Bryant; sisters: Estie Tincher, Nellie Tincher, Mabel Berry, Fannie Bryant, and Viunna Bryant.

He is survived by his sisters Barclay Bond and Leona McCoy; brother: Maynard Bryant; daughters: Glennis Kelley of Westerville OH and Carol McGuire and Jackie (Billy) Endicott both of Browning Fork; sons: Cren (Kathy) Bryant of Hanover, Jay (Kay) Bryant of Browning Fork, and Michael Bryant of the home. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Friends may gather with the family at Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert, WV at 11 AM on Saturday. Funeral services will follow the visitation and will commence at 12 PM with Rev. Diamond Carter, Rev. Garfield Hatfield, and Pastor Katie Endicott officiating.

Luster will be carried to his final resting place by family and friends. Burial will take place immediately after the funeral at Carter Cemetery.

His family will continue to carry on his incredible legacy of faith and devotion to family. We rejoice in knowing that death is not defeat and trust that one day we will all be reunited in the presence of our savior.
