Michael Lee Egnew

Michael Lee Egnew, 83 of Panther, departed this life Monday, December 19, 2022 from Welch Community Hospital.

Born May 25, 1939 in Springfield, Illinois, he was the son of the late Russell and Imogene (Lord) Egnew.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son: Michael Egnew; brothers: Donald, Phillip, Russell, Jerome, and Robert Egnew; and sister: Alexandria Young.

Michael served in the U.S. Military from 1956 till 1976, serving in Korea-Iwo Jima-Panama, and was a Vietnam Veteran, who saw combat in Vietnam and was awarded several medals including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for Valor, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ DVC 60, Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantryman’s Badge, a former member and past Sergeant at Arms of The American Legion and standing member of Moose Lodge # 996 of Port Angeles, Washington and was of the Catholic Faith but sometimes attended The House of Gethsemane near Panther.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are his sons: Patrick (Christie) Egnew of Clairton, Ohio and Eric (Heather) Egnew of Lincoln, Illinois; daughter: Elizabeth (Jerry) Forni of Beallsville, Ohio; grandchildren: Brandon, Andrea, Justin, Gina, Madison, Peyton, and Joshua; great grandchildren: Tegan, Tessa, and Juniper; his brother: David Egnew of Seabrook, NH; and best friends: Chico (his dog) and Kiki (his cat).  He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear relatives and friends.

Michael also wanted to recognize and show special appreciation for their kindness to him: Dion and Linda Justice and Steve and Patty Bailey, all of Panther.

To honor Michael’s request, his remains will be cremated.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, WV.
