In the early morning of September 3, 2022, Midgie Thompson, 92 of Gilbert, peacefully departed this world as she was called home by Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior.
Midgie was born on December 1,1929, to the late Lee and Martha (Hatfield) Carter.
In addition to her parents, Midgie was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, LeeRoy Thompson, her sisters, Essie Harris, Vicie Collins, Louisa Cresong, Thelma Blankenship, Pansy Belcher, and Cora Carter. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Ballard Carter, Turley Kelly Carter, and Glen Carter.
She was both a homemaker and worked outside the home as a cook for multiple employers including the Gilbert Fire Department. Midgie warmly welcomed friends and family into her home, and nothing pleased her more than to prepare and share a meal. She will always be remembered for her kindness to others.
Those left to love and cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa (Jimmy) Jones of Princeton WV, one grandson, Tanner Jones, of Martinsburg, WV, and one granddaughter, Allison Jones of Princeton WV. In addition, she is survived by one brother, Rush Carter of Gilbert, WV as well as a vast number of nieces and nephews who adored her.
Friends may gather with the family on Saturday, Sept 10, 2022 from 1 pm -3 pm at Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 pm in the chapel with Pastor Denny May officiating the service with burial immediately following in the Carter Cemetery on Browning’s Fork Road, Gilbert, WV.
Midgie will be carried to her final resting place by several nephews serving as pallbearers including Dale Harris, Jerry Harris, Scott Carter, Jeff Carter, Roger Hatfield, Tommy Lester, Tommy Lester II, Steven Lester, Arron Simpson, and Josh Belcher.
Honorary pallbearers include Doc Grimmett, Roger Blankenship, Don Blankenship, and Mike Belcher.
Her wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved her.
