How do I write an obituary for the man who literally owned my heart? Eugene was the man who has shown me nothing but love, respect, and honor all our lives.

We started dating our junior and senior years and have been together ever since. He was a wonderful, loving husband, dad, Pawpaw Honey, and Uncle Bluegene.

Orval Eugene Lilly, Jr., 61 of Wharncliffe, departed this life Thursday, December 15, 2022 from his residence.

Born on June 11, 1961 in Elyria, Ohio, he was the son of the late Jaunita (Hatfield) and Orville Eugene Lilly, Sr.

In addition to his parents, Eugene is also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Lee and Amanda Hatfield and his paternal grandparents Layton and Nelda Lilly.

Eugene had served in the Army National Guard.  He was a retired Coal Miner, who loved spending time with his family and friends, and he enjoyed attending The Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer Church at Hampden, WV.

Those who are left to mourn and cherish him are his wife of 42 years, Myra Lilly, his sons Preston Lilly, and Joseph (Cortney) Lilly, his 3 daughters Chelsea, Savannah and Maddie, his grandchildren Kaden, Sarah, Gentry, and Silas Lilly, his bonus daughter Shena Lilly and his brother Patrick Lilly and his many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer Church on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.  Friends may gather with the family from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm at the Church.  Funeral services will commence at 2:00 pm with Pastor Barry Cline and Pastor Carl “Cab” Wolford officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cline Family Cemetery at Gilbert Creek.

Eugene will be carried to his resting place by his grandson Kaden Lilly, nephews, Jordan and Barry “Boogie” Cline, and Eric Woods, great nephews, Oliver and Benjamin Reed, and friends Randy Johnson, Teddy Smith, and Jamie McGraw. Honorary Pall Bearers are Barry Cline, Clark Blackburn, Burton Reed, Ronald Stacy, Chris Bevins and Roy “Buggy” Roberts.

His wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
