Retired Master Sergeant Edward W. Earnest, Sr., 78 of Elk Creek Rd., Verner, WV departed this life Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
Born October 20, 1942 at Verner, he was the son of the late Clay and Georgia (Harless) Earnest.
In addition to his parents, Edward is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years: Betty L. (Grimmett) Earnest; his sisters: Betty Toler, Patsy Mullins, Janet Earnest and Patricia Earnest; brothers: Russell Earnest, Glenn Earnest, Jerry Earnest and Bob Earnest.
Edward was a Retired Master Sergeant with the United States Army. He enjoyed digging ginseng, but his greatest love was playing the guitar and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Elk Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Those left to love and cherish his memory and to mourn his loss are his daughter: Carolyn (Jimmy) Griffin of Brandenburg, KY; sons: Ret. MSGT Edward W. (Gina) Earnest, Jr of Bellevue, NE., Ret. SFC Jeffrey N. Earnest of New Smyrna Beach, FL; sister: Brenda (Rev. Cecil) Johnson of Gilbert, WV, and his 8 grandchildren: AnnMarie and Georgia Earnest, Madisyn and Chad Earnest, Tyler, Tristan, Shane, and Sheena Griffin. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in laws, and a host other dear relatives and friends.
Friends may gather with the family Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 till 9:00 pm, with service at 7:00 pm with Rev. Cecil Johnson officiating.
To honor his request, he will be cremated following services.
His wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
