Richard Kennedy Obituary

Richard G. Kennedy, 67 of Gilbert, WV departed this life Sunday, June 22, 2025, from Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born June 20, 1958, at Welch, WV he was the son of the late Buster and Shelby (Suttles) Kennedy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Donald and Scott Kennedy; father-in-law: Ronald “Ronnie Buck” Hatfield.

Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, he enjoyed cooking, entertaining, volunteering, donating, and helping others in any way he could, he especially loved to contribute his time to the community, whatever the need or cause was, you could count on him, with his wife Melissa, to be there and give of themselves to help.  He was a retired Coal Miner, who loved attending church at the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer, and spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are his loving wife of 39 years: Melissa (Hatfield) Kennedy; his special “fur baby and princess” Wendy, both of the home; sons: Justin (Tabatha) Kennedy, Brandon (Jen) Hatfield; grandchildren: Gracie and Chance Kennedy, Blake Stacy, and Bryce Hatfield, all of Gilbert, WV; mother-in-law: Norma Hatfield; sisters: Donna (Ronnie) Newsome, Dani (James) Baker, all of Hanover, WV and Mary Hartwell of Asheboro, NC; brothers: Brad (Pam) Kennedy of Hanover, WV and Michael (Vicki) Sammons of Hampden, WV; sister-in-law: Helen (Jimmy) Dingess of Gilbert, WV; a friend he loved as a “Brudder” Zack Trent; special friends: Denver Dale (Lori) Stacy, all of Gilbert, WV; a special lady he loved like a daughter: Kim (Jeremy) Cline.  He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends, co-workers and acquaintances who he cared deeply about.

Friends may gather with the family Friday, June 27, 2025, from 6:00 till 7:00 pm in the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home where services will commence at 7:00 pm with Pastor Carl “Cab” Wolford officiating.

In honoring his request, he will be cremated following services.

His wonderful smile, and his caring and giving heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
